The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 is a national-level Computer-Based Test (CBT) administered jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. For GATE 2027, the Organizing Institute (OI) is the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). The exam serves as the benchmark for admission to Master’s and Doctoral programs with MoE financial assistance and is widely used for direct recruitment into Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Central Government Group ‘A’ posts.

How to Apply for GATE Examination 2027
DigiLocker Integration & Registration: Visit gate2027.iitm.ac.in and register via GOAPS by verifying through DigiLocker or providing your primary email address and mobile number.
Obtain Enrolment ID: Receive your unique Enrolment ID and set a secure password.
Fill Application Form: Fill in personal details, qualifying educational background, choice of 1 or 2 test papers, and 3 examination city preferences within the same zone.
Live Photo & Document Upload: Capture your live facial photo, upload your standard photograph, signature, photo ID proof, and category certificates.
Fee Payment: Verify details via “Save and View Application”, proceed to the online payment gateway, and pay the fee.
Download Confirmation: Download and save the final submitted application form PDF for future reference.
Q1. What is the newly introduced paper in GATE 2027?
IIT Madras has introduced Robotics and Automation (RA) as a new full paper in GATE 2027. Textile Engineering & Fibre Science has been made a sectional paper under Engineering Sciences (XE9).
Q2. Are physical calculators allowed inside the exam center?
No. Handheld calculators and smartwatches are strictly prohibited. A virtual scientific calculator is integrated directly into the computer interface.
